As you may or may not know, lawmakers recently passed a law banning Debt Settlement companies from collecting upfront fees from consumers. This was an important new regulation because many Debt Settlement companies were taking people’s money, collecting thousands of dollars, without applying any of it towards the client’s actual debts. So as a result, lawmakers saw a need to put a stop to that. However, according to some consumer advocates, Debt Settlement companies have been finding loopholes of getting around this new law in order to keep getting paid upfront from their clients.
